A normal spinal decompression treatment will take approximately 20-30 minutes and consist of the following:
- Hot Pack or Cold Pack depending on the complaint
- Electrical Stimulation
- Spinal Decompression
Spinal decompression treatment consists of the following:
The patient will lay face up or face down on the decompression table. Two straps will be placed on the patient, which will be connected to a computerized traction unit. The computer will then perform the treatment.
Most patients will experience a gentle pulling sensation of the targeted area. The theory behind the treatment is that constant “milking” of the injured disc will promote normal fluid and nutrient movement into the disc which will help to relieve the patient’s pain.
Depending upon the cause or type of injury spinal radiographs may be recommended before treatment begins to rule out the possibility of an unstable spine.
